Lo Wu Port is the busiest and largest land border control station in Hong Kong, with a dedicated visitor hall for immigration procedures. During peak hours, the waiting time for passengers to pass through customs is longer, especially during the tourist season, holidays, and weekends. After the cancellation of black codes, there has been a slight decrease in crowds at Lo Wu Port.

In addition, citizens and travellers can also use the mobile application of the Immigration Department to check the estimated waiting time for crossing at various land border control points anytime and anywhere, in order to plan their itinerary and reduce queueing time. Starting from November 1, 2023, the “Health Declaration Card,” commonly known as the “Black Code,” has been officially canceled. All inbound and outbound travellers can pass through directly. If passengers experience any discomfort afterwards, they only need to proactively report it to customs personnel.
Process for traveling to Mainland China:
- Use the smart identity card to exit Hong Kong
- Enter Mainland China with the “Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents”
Return to Hong Kong process:
- Exit mainland China with a “Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents”
- Enter Hong Kong with an intelligent identity card
