The new shopping mall under MTR Corporation, THE SOUTHSIDE, has commenced its Phase 1 trial operations, starting with the opening of the GF floor. This floor includes various dining options, daily essentials, and community services, all seamlessly connected to the Wong Chuk Hang MTR station’s B exit through a newly constructed pathway. This one-stop convenience aims to cater to the needs of residents and commuters in the area.

Since the opening of the South Island Line, the railway network has connected the Southern District of Hong Kong Island, rapidly transforming Wong Chuk Hang into a vibrant community. THE SOUTHSIDE’s tenant mix focuses on clothing, food, housing, and transportation, with approximately 30 stores opening in the first phase, primarily on one of the mall’s five floors, covering around 20% of the total floor area. These stores offer a variety of dining options and lifestyle retail choices, aiming to meet the daily needs of residents and office workers in the area.

THE SOUTHSIDE boasts two convenient entrances on Heung Yip Road to facilitate customer access. The newly inaugurated pathway connecting the B exit of the Wong Chuk Hang MTR station to the mall ensures a seamless transition for visitors. Furthermore, surface-level entrances have been opened, along with a 24-hour pedestrian pathway linking residential developments, public transportation hubs, bus stops, and the public minibus terminal. On the day following the opening of THE SOUTHSIDE in Wong Chuk Hang, our reporter visited the site and provided exclusive coverage. The shopping mall seamlessly connects to the Wong Chuk Hang MTR station, making it extremely convenient for commuters. However, it’s important to note that during the initial phase, only the Ground Floor (G/F) shops are open for business, with approximately 30 stores in operation. The shops on the 1st to 5th floors are yet to be opened. For those waiting for the full opening of the entire mall, stay tuned for the latest updates! Our reporter also inspected the restroom facilities, which, aside from their stylish design, were notably clean and well-maintained.

The largest leisure and lifestyle landmark shopping mall in the Southern District of Hong Kong Island, “THE SOUTHSIDE,” is scheduled to be completed in 2023. Located in the Wong Chuk Hang Integrated Development Area, the mall has a total floor area of nearly 510,000 square feet with 5 levels of retail space. It is expected to have approximately 150 shops and plans to introduce multimedia facilities and various types of businesses such as entertainment venues and large-scale supermarkets.

In addition, there is a 14,000 square feet public recreational space at the entrance, as well as a performance venue of no less than 3,000 square feet. The mall design will blend elegance and soft natural colors, using special lighting design and high transparency to enhance the sense of space inside the venue. It is planned to be completed in 2023 and will be the first mall in Wong Chuk Hang area, providing comprehensive facilities for clothing, food, housing, and transportation for residents in the southern district and surrounding areas.
