teamLab Hong Kong | 2.Light Ball Orchestra

When a light-ball is rolled, its color and sound transform. Together, these light-balls create an orchestra!

The light-balls above communicate with those on the ground. When one is touched, it influences the surrounding balls, causing the entire area to change color. Roll the light-ball in front of you and witness its color and sound altering. In this shared space, participants engage their bodies to interact with the light-balls, modifying both the space’s hue and creating music.

teamLab Hong Kong | 3.Graffiti Nature – Beating Mountains and Valleys, Red List

The pulsating mountains and valleys formed by three-dimensional terrain present a wriggling state due to the separation of visual perception and bodily cognition. Together, we depict various creatures inhabiting the pulsating mountains and valleys. Drawing creatures on paper, the depicted beings seem infused with life, appearing before our eyes. Through mutual predation and consumption, these creatures collectively form an ecosystem. If the creature you draw consumes other beings, it will reproduce and multiply; conversely, if it fails to feed on other creatures, it will die out and disappear. Similarly, if preyed upon by other beings, it will also vanish. Salamanders eat snakes, snakes eat lizards, lizards eat frogs, frogs eat butterflies – they all continue to increase in number. Butterflies proliferate in places abundant with blooming flowers. Flowers bloom brilliantly where people pause but wither away completely if trampled carelessly back and forth. Salamanders gradually perish as people repeatedly tread upon them as well.

In this world of give-and-take among living organisms gradually expanding outwardly within this space that you have depicted creatures in may be increasing somewhere within it—please take a look around.

This artwork is based on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (Red List) by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), featuring endangered local flora and fauna that will appear within it.

teamLab Hong Kong | 4.Sliding through the Fruit Field

This is a slide that cultivates various fruits. On the slide, various kinds of fruits are being cultivated. There are also spheres flying around. People turn into sunlight and slide on the slide. When you collide with a sphere with your body, the sphere that has absorbed solar energy will fly vigorously in all directions. When colliding with the flying spheres, the fruits can be nurtured. Different colored spheres have different effects. When colliding with a sky blue sphere, seeds will germinate, bud and bloom into flowers. When colliding with a yellow bee sphere, the flowers will be pollinated. Pollinated flowers will bear fruit. When spheres collide with fruit, new seeds will scatter and continue to grow into the next life cycle.

teamLab Hong Kong | 5.Hopscotch for Geniuses

This is a genius game of jumping houses, where you jump and land on the water surface with one foot. Jump continuously onto symbols of the same shape to create fish, butterflies, and birds. If you can keep jumping, more fish, butterflies, and birds will be generated. In addition, when you continuously jump onto symbols of the same color, that color will gradually expand.

teamLab Hong Kong | 6.A Table where Little People Live

This particular table serves as the dwelling place for a community of tiny individuals. These little beings scurry about within the confines of the table, oblivious to your presence on this side. However, if you were to place your hand or any other object on the table’s surface, these dwarves would swiftly take notice and leap onto it. Depending on the shape of said object, these miniature inhabitants can slide, jump, or even climb upon it. The act of placing numerous objects can bring them great joy and amusement in their playtime activities.

teamLab Hong Kong | 7. Sketch Town Papercraft

This city is a unique creation born from the collective imagination. By sketching buildings, cars, UFOs, and spaceships associated with the town on paper, these drawings come to life in three dimensions and animate within a vast urban landscape right before your eyes. The city takes form based on the individual contributions of each person’s artwork, constantly evolving as new drawings are added. Interactivity is key – one can physically interact with this extraordinary metropolis; for instance, touching a car will alter its speed. Furthermore, every element comprising the city serves a purpose; fire trucks and cranes stand ready to protect and defend this remarkable place.

teamLab Hong Kong | Hong Kong vs Japan Exhibition

In the past, everyone had to go to Japan to experience teamLab, but finally it has arrived in Hong Kong! However, there are significant differences between the teamLab exhibitions in Japan and Hong Kong. This time in Hong Kong, indoor projections take center stage. For example, “Nature Graffiti” and “Painted City” both involve projection and interactive perception. It will be very enjoyable to play with them during the hot summer! In Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, on the other hand, they usually focus on nature with flowers, plants, trees; some even have water elements and are held outdoors!

teamLab also holds events in Osaka’s Nagai Park, with the entire exhibition displayed as outdoor installations. As soon as you step into the park, you enter teamLab’s artistic world, complete with giant art decorations. It is an unforgettable experience!
